Rescued horses cost money every single day, and almost none of it is dramatic. Hay, grain, bedding, hoof care, teeth, wormer, the vet. It's the ordinary arithmetic of keeping a horse fed and sound through a Maine winter, and it doesn't pause. Below is what those things actually cost, so you can see exactly what your gift pays for. Give once or give monthly — the horses eat either way, and steady support is what lets us say yes to the next one.
This is where I would put the list of items, something like this:
1 bale of hay feeds a horse for a week $75
1 white round of hay feeds five horses for a week $150
and so on. The more options you give them, the harder it will be for them to make a decision, so I would not put an exhaustive list here. Ideally, I would give them one option from up to five categories. Also, if you give them items that have a range in price, it will be easier for them to make a decision. I have a low budget. Remember, they are not buying THAT item, but donating enough so that the farm can purchase what it needs.

There are definitely opportunities for you to volunteer at the farm, either working with rescue horses or assisting with the Nokota Grace program. While previous experience with horses is preferred, we provide training for all of our volunteers. Please use the contact page to send us an email!
